TORONTO – The Toronto Comic Arts Festival is proud to announce the return of Canadian DJ icon Kid Koala as a featured guest of the Festival. Kid Koala will bring his one-of-a-kind Space Cadet experience to TCAF with shows on May 3rd and 4th at 918 Bathurst. Based on the book of the same name, Space Cadet is a unique, immersive headphone concert that combines sequential narrative and music. The audience sits in inflatable “space pods,” listening to the show through individual headphone systems as Kid Koala brings the Space Cadet’s score to life on a piano and several turntables. The Space Cadet Experience is a co-presentation between Wavelength and the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, in association with 918 Bathurst.

In addition to this unique concert, we invite you to enjoy the Space Cadet Gallery.  Prior to the concert, explore the story with Space Plant Sculpture installations, an interactive Music Spaceship Console, a Space Cadet Soundtrack Cassette Jukebox, and original etchboards from the Space Cadet book. You can even decorate your own Gingerbread Space Cookies. The Space Cadet Headphone Experience has extremely limited seating, so we urge eager fans to buy tickets as soon as they become available.

BOOK and SOUNDTRACK
Space Cadet, the book, is a 132-page graphic novel drawn entirely on etchboards. It is accompanied by a “still picture score” of music composed and recorded by Kid Koala. This charming story of an adventurous space cadet and her guardian robot touches on the relationship between technology and isolation, and celebrates the idea of connectivity through family and the cycles that build generations. Space Cadet is on sale now at The Beguiling Books and Art.

Kid Koala will be signing books at TCAF and participating in select programming.
