Mariko Tamaki is a writer and performer. She is the author of Cover Me, True Lies, Fake ID, as well as co-creator of the comic book Emiko Superstar (with Steve Rolston). Her graphic novel Skim (with Jillian Tamaki) was a finalist for the Governor General's Awards in 2008. Mariko teaches creative writing to aspiring writers of all levels. She is currently developing a Young Adult writing course for the University of Toronto's Faculty of Continuing Studies. Mariko can be reached at her sitemarikotamaki.com. Tamaki will be joined by Jenna Anne Kennedy and Krystle McKenzie, two young writers from the Toronto Street Writers, a celebrated local writing group for youth. After the featured reading, the youth will interview the author about their experiences and work. Audience members are also invited to join the discussion. The event will end with an open mic (interested readers must sign up at the beginning of the event). A light lunch will also be served, giving time for audience members to mingle.
