It's the sale that some of our customers wait all year for, the big back-issue sale! If you like old comics, have we got deals for you! And just as a special bonus, we've decided to extend it to two full weekends, just to make sure everyone who wanted to pick something up gets a shot.
(All previous sales are completed, unless otherwise noted.)
GROUND RULES
1. We reserve the right to refuse sale of any item to any customer for any reason.
2. We will probably not do this, but you'd be amazed at the number of people who insist that certain things are on sale when they're clearly not, so yeah, rule #1.
3. Anything put on hold or special-ordered prior to Boxing Day is entirely exempt to sale pricing.
4. Sales cannot be combined with other specials or sales.
5. "Regular Price" is determined as 'Whatever the book would sell for not on Boxing Day,' whether that's U.S. Cover Price, Converted Canadian Cover price, Canadian Cover Price, or Sticker Price.
6. Items released in December 2009 or later are not eligible for sale. This includes certain pre-made sets. Determination for eligibility will be made at the cash register, at our sole discretion.

What this means is that most back issues in the back issue bins ($15 and under) will be 50% off their stickered price, and most back issues kept behind the counter ($15.01 and over) will be 30% off their stickered price. This also includes the magazine bins and back issues of Twomorrows Magazines.
SMUT: 50% off printed English-language smut in the back issue bins.
That's right, all of our comics smut from the fine folks at Comic AG, Eros, Radio Comix, Class Comics, Etc.? All of it is 50% off the sticker price! Must be 18 or older to purchase.

All special edition/variant covers of comics released in the last 10 years will be 75% off the sticker price, or $3, whichever price is higher. This does not include "second printing variants" or the like. These boxes will be clearly labelled in store to avoid confusion. No variants released in December 2010 or later will be eligible.

Just a quick reminder, new comics day this week is a day later, Thursday December 30th. Yes, even though the Americans are getting comics today. Shipping list goes up in a few hours.
Also, rather than our new opening/closing hours, we're going to be open 11am-7pm Wednesday, and 11am-7pm Thursday. Friday, New Years Eve, we'll be open until about 5pm.

BOXING DAY IS HERE! Our one big sale of the year has returned, and it's going to last for more than 2 weeks, with all kinds of special deals! We've had a lot of interest and inquiry about one particular release this week, the Incal Deluxe Edition Hardcover, by Jodorwski and Moebius. This is a slipcased hardcover featuring the original art and colouring by Moebius, and it is available in a limited edition of just 1000 copies. It will retail for $99.95.
We will be getting our full compliment of copies, which means all pullfile customers and all customer inquiries to date should be covered by available stock. If you'd like one reserved for you, it will require upfront payment, and you can call the store after 11am on Wednesday morning.

Y'see, some people may not know this but David Collier decided to re-enlist to the Canadian army a few years back at the age of 40. He's serving in the Canadian Forces Artists Program, and this new work is an account of his re-enlisting, his life today, and his signature digressions into the past and biography of some of his favourite Canadians. It's a neat book.
Chimo is 128 pages, black and white, and retails for $17.

Oh my gosh you guys! Just in time for Christmas, it’s the release of the long-awaited new collection of DINOSAUR COMICS, the awesome webcomic by Toronto’s own Ryan North! It’s called “Dinosaur Comics: Dudes Already Know About Chickens”, and collects all of the strips originally appearing in 2006—NOW IN FULL COLOUR! Author Ryan North will be on hand signing books and meeting and greeting with fans! Copies of the new book will be on sale at the event, as will past books, shirts, and prints! It’s going to be awesome you guys!

While we appreciate all of the press coverage that we receive here at The Beguiling, my favourite types of articles are the ones where the journalist in question "discovers" the store in the way that so many of our customers do. We're aware that the shop can sometimes seem intimidating, particularly to newcomers, and the shelves are stacked high with every type of comic, graphic novel, art book, and more. But we've always maintained that The Beguiling is a wonderful place to "poke around" in, to just sort of pick a shelf and see what it offers, and we're delighted that Raphaël Lopoukhine, a journalist for Le Métropolitain (one of Toronto's several French-language newspapers) did just that.

Since this article appeared in both the print and online versions of the newspaper a few weeks back, a dozen or so new customers for BD (bande dessinée, or French comics albums) have made their way to the store, finding books they didn't know they could get locally for themselves and their children. Everything from complete runs of Tintin and Asterix in French to, as Raphaël pointed out, the very newest volume of Blacksad by Guardino and Canales. In addition to trying to keep a solid selection of new and classic material, we are always happy to take special orders for books not carried on the shelves, and even that business has seen a lovely uptick over the past few weeks...!

Honestly, we're sold out of pretty much all of our Scott Pilgrim stuff. We have quantity of the Scott Pilgrim RAMONA shirt in L, XL, and XXL, and we do have copies available of the awesome launch shirt by Michael DeForge available in most sizes. But that's... pretty much it, a few scraps of other designs and sizes here and there.

As soon as Jeff Lemire's excellent graphic novel The Collected Essex County became one of the 5 finalists for the Canada Reads competition, it sold out. Everywhere. Instantly.
Now, we've had the hardcover edition in stock consistently, but even we were sold out of the softcover... until now!
We're pleased to be able to say that we've secured a few dozen copies of the softcover Collected Essex County, and they're currently available for sale on the first floor of The Beguiling. To our knowledge, we're one of the only stores that has the book in stock right now, and it isn't expected that the new printing will reach stores until mid January.

Imiri Sakabashira's Heso-No-O Kaidou - Great Gifts at The Beguiling
The very select amongst you may remember (and be a fan of) Imri Sakabashira's THE BOX MAN, released last year from the fine folks at Drawn and Quarterly. Well, in addition to his underground manga career, Sakabashira is also a noted painter and fine artist, and on my last trip to Japan I was able to pick up a bunch of copies of a gallery catalogue of his painting work, published by the alt-culture retailer TACO che. 60 pages, colour, A5 Size, $19.95, and it's available on both floors.
This is one of those super-cool items that we get here at The Beguiling that we have for a little while and people think "Oh, I'll get that next time," and then it is gone, but more importantly since it is published by a Japanese micro-publisher and we picked them up in person in Japan, it will eventually be gone forever. These are probably the only copies of these in Canada, that sorta thing. :)

Anders Nilsen's BIG QUESTIONS #15 and Michael DeForge's SPOTTING DEER
Anders Nilsen's BIG QUESTIONS #15 has just arrived in-store, wrapping up the exceptionally long-running serialized graphic novel. I've been following it since about issue #6 and it's a phenomenal, beautiful work, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all wraps up. Big Questions #15 is published by the lovely Drawn & Quarterly, and is available on the main floor.
Toronto Comics wunderkind Michael DeForge also has a brand new comic book out, SPOTTING DEER, from the fine folks at Koyama Press. The previews of this one set the internet on fire last week, so now that the book is available in store we hope you'll all come by and pick up a copy, it's even prettier than it looks here, and a massive 10" x 10". $5.00, both floors.
